Foundational exams like Cloud Practitioner cost $100. Associate exams are $150. Professional and specialty exams are $300.

The study costs

Most of the spread in total cost comes from how you prepare.

A reasonable total for SAA-C03 is around $200 to $300, including the exam. People with a tight budget can get through for closer to $175 by using free AWS training and a single paid practice set.

The 50% voucher

This is the cost-saver. After you pass any AWS certification exam, AWS gives you a 50% discount voucher for a future exam. If you’ve already passed Cloud Practitioner, you’d pay $75 for SAA-C03 instead of $150.

A few practical points:

• Check the voucher’s expiry date in your AWS Certification account. They don’t last forever.
• You can only use one voucher per exam.
• If you’re planning a path, take the exam you need least first, and use the voucher on the one you need most.

What if you fail?

You pay the full $150 again, and you have to wait 14 days. There’s no limit on attempts, but each try is a new purchase. That’s why I’d rather you spend $30 on extra practice exams than $150 on a failed attempt.

Ways to reduce what you pay

• Ask your employer. Many companies reimburse exam fees, and some will pay for training too.
• Watch for promotions. AWS sometimes runs offers with free retakes or discounted exam vouchers, often tied to events and training programs.
• Use free training first. Skill Builder has a lot of high-quality content.
• Buy one good course, not five. Extra courses mostly repeat each other.
• Set a billing alarm before you start hands-on labs, so a forgotten resource doesn’t surprise you.

Is it worth $150?

For most people, yes, if you’re going to use it. SAA-C03 is one of the most recognized AWS credentials, and it shows up often in job listings for cloud, support, and architecture roles. AWS charges tax in some regions. The amount appears at checkout. If you pay in a non-USD currency, your card may add a conversion fee. Price is set in US dollars, though, so it won’t change except when AWS changes it.
