AWS PrivateLink provides private connectivity between VPCs, AWS services, and on-premises networks without exposing traffic to the public internet, using interface VPC endpoints.

What it enables

PrivateLink lets you reach a service (an AWS service, a SaaS partner, or your own service in another VPC) through a private endpoint inside your VPC, so traffic never traverses the internet. The tell is “access a service privately” or “expose my service to other VPCs securely without peering.”

Practice question

A company wants to expose an internal application to other VPCs privately, without VPC peering and without any traffic crossing the internet. What should they use?

  1. VPC peering
  2. AWS PrivateLink (interface endpoint)
  3. An Internet Gateway
  4. A NAT Gateway

Correct answer: B. PrivateLink exposes a service through interface endpoints so other VPCs reach it privately, with no peering and no internet exposure. Peering (A) connects whole VPCs and doesn’t scale as cleanly; Internet Gateway (C) and NAT (D) involve internet routing.
