CLF-C02
CLF-C02 vs SAA-C03: Which AWS Cert (2026)
Sep 25, 2026
These are two very different exams. Cloud Practitioner is foundational; Solutions Architect Associate is a serious step up in depth and difficulty.
The real difference
CLF-C02 tests broad awareness — what services do, basic security, and billing — and mostly asks you to match a term to a need. SAA-C03 tests architecture judgment: long scenarios where you choose the best design for cost, performance, and availability. CLF is ~2 weeks of study for most; SAA is 4–8 weeks and much harder.
Which to take
New to AWS → CLF-C02 first. Ready for a career-grade, hands-on cert that employers value more → SAA-C03. Many people do CLF then SAA; experienced folks skip straight to SAA.
Test yourself
A candidate wants the AWS cert that most directly demonstrates the ability to design cost- and performance-optimized architectures. Which exam?
- CLF-C02 (Cloud Practitioner)
- SAA-C03 (Solutions Architect Associate)
- Neither tests architecture
- Both are equal in depth

Correct answer: B. SAA-C03 tests architectural design trade-offs (cost, performance, availability) through detailed scenarios — that’s its focus. CLF-C02 (A) tests broad awareness, not architecture design; the other options (C, D) are incorrect.
