If you’re new to AWS, start with the Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02). It builds the vocabulary and mental model everything else rests on, and it’s the most approachable exam AWS offers.
The usual path
Most people go CLF-C02 → an Associate. If you’re aiming at architecture, that’s Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03). If you’re in data, it’s Data Engineer Associate (DEA-C01). You can skip straight to an Associate if you already have hands-on AWS experience, but the Cloud Practitioner is a low-risk confidence builder that also helps non-engineers (sales, PM, finance).
A quick self-check
New to cloud entirely? CLF-C02 first. Already comfortable with AWS basics and want a career-grade cert? Go straight to SAA-C03. Working with data pipelines? DEA-C01 after the fundamentals.

Correct answer: B. Cloud Practitioner is the foundational exam — it builds the core vocabulary and concepts the associate exams assume. Jumping straight to SAA-C03 (A), DEA-C01 (C), or a Professional exam (D) is tougher without the fundamentals.
